An eFoil is a surfboard equipped with a mast and a hydrodynamic wing (foil) driven by an electric motor.
As speed increases, the foil lifts the board out of the water, providing a unique sensation of smooth, silent gliding — almost like flying over the waves.

The first ever efoil came under this shape. I wanted to put the motor in the board and drive the propeller with a pulley. The mast and fuselage were made from plywood, and I did a pretty messy (and bad) fiberglass job. This version never took of and actually never touched water.

This is the version that took of for the first time and that ignited the spark in me. The mast and the fuselage were made from laser cut and bend 1/8 aluminum sheets, then welded together. The inside of the mast is pumped up to 5psi, ensuring watertightness. The wings were totally custom made from 3D printing and carbon fiber layering. It took me 2 years and 4 iterations before I get it to fly. Never give up.

Mechanical engineer, inventor by nature, curious, and an extreme sports enthusiast, I’m proud to present the culmination of one of the many projects I’ve worked on in my free time: the electric foil!
It all started during university in 2019, when this new water sport was gaining popularity. There were very few opportunities to try it in our region, and the average retail price ($14,000) made the experience inaccessible for most.
That’s when, with two classmates, Paul and Arthur, we took on the challenge of designing and building our own water machine. On June 11th of this year, we met at Lac Beauport to celebrate the success of the challenge — six years later and after many attempts and iterations!
